Wanting to create a more “professional” looking oil painting, I remember I made quite a few sketches of this piece before I decided which way to approach it. I put more attention to the background colours of the buildings and the blending of the form in the figure, along with the impasto technique in the flames and applied acrylic texture gels.
It was during the trips to Mexico City as a kid with my mom, that I remember seeing the kids fire breathers and the street clowns performing on the street corners as a necessity for survival or under threat.
